Medical Examiner Identifies Victims in Deadly East Cleveland Shooting That Injured Two Officers

Authorities have released the names of the two men killed in an East Cleveland domestic shooting that also left two police officers wounded and triggered an overnight manhunt.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victims as 22-year-old Erik Sharp and 82-year-old Charles Roscoe. Investigators say both were fatally shot late Thursday night by 24-year-old Aaron L. Sharp, a relative, before Sharp opened fire on responding officers.

Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of North Taylor Road around 11 p.m. for reports of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, Officer Joshua Durda, 37, was shot outside the residence. Around 1 a.m., Officer Brandon Hernandez was struck by gunfire on Euclid Avenue near North Taylor Road.

Sharp was taken into custody just before 8:30 a.m. Friday in the 1800 block of Sheldon Avenue, near Shaw High School, following an extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Police confirmed they had previous encounters with Sharp prior to this incident.

Officer Hernandez, who joined the department in December 2024 and also serves part-time with the Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department, was treated at University Hospitals and later released. Officer Durda, a full-time officer since March 2023 and a former auxiliary officer, remains hospitalized with complications from his injuries.

“This is a stark reminder of the risks our officers face every day,” said East Cleveland Police Chief Reginald Holcomb.

The shooting comes just two weeks after three Lorain police officers were injured in an ambush, further highlighting recent violence against law enforcement in Northeast Ohio.

Sharp is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning on multiple charges, including aggravated murder.
