Maple Heights Student Charged After Box Cutter Incident at School

A student at Maple Heights High School is facing charges of felonious assault following a violent altercation on Tuesday that involved a box cutter.

According to police, two students who had a recent history of disputes got into a fight during class. Prior to the physical confrontation, the students exchanged heated words before engaging in a mutual fight, the Maple Heights Police Department stated in a press release.

During a pause in the altercation, one of the students retrieved a box cutter from their backpack and resumed fighting. The student used the blade to injure the other, causing cuts to the forehead and abdomen.

School security and local police quickly intervened, detaining both students. Emergency personnel from the Maple Heights Fire Department treated the injured student on-site before transporting them to Metro Hospital for further care. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.

The student who wielded the box cutter sustained a hand injury and was taken to Marymount Hospital for treatment of minor wounds. They were later taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center and are now facing charges of felonious assault.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and no further details have been released at this time.
