Five shot, one killed early Saturday as police respond quickly to scene The bloodshed happened about 5 a.m., and when officers arrived to the area near Euclid Avenue, north of Taylor Road they encountered chaos
Interim Police Chief Ken Lundy added that one man died at the scene and four others were taken to area hospitals, but their conditions are not known. One male pronounced deceased in scene Four other victims that we are aware of at this time were self-transported to local hospitals,” Lundy said in an interview today.
A fight in what Lundy described as an illegal bar may have led to the shooting, according to authorities. The East Cleveland Police Department is working with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to ask questions about the shooting.
This robbery took place across the street from a 3 person shooting at this Mobil gas station on September 2, and down the block in distance shot others were wounded about six hours before that crime. East Cleveland Police also emphasized that the previous incidents he was found guilty of were unrelated.
The neighborhood is seeing an increase in violent crimes that are causing alarm among residents. Local resident Tony Young said,”East Cleveland is out of control”– an increasingly common sentiment in the neighborhood.
As the investigation removed evidence, literally dozens of markers stood inside the store and outside its entrance — red for bullet casings, green for unknown or undeclared weapons but live ammo found by cadaver dogs -— yet the emphasis was on piecing together what happened in those moments leading up to such a loss. Three people have been detained for questioning by police, but the force has not said what role they may play in his disappearance.
The killings have disrupted a recent relative period of peace in East Cleveland, where residents say gun violence has escalated when we should be hunkered down at home and concluded that police shootings “are embarrassing to the entire northeast Ohio region.” In total, one person was injured as a result of the shooting and county authorities are encouraging anyone with information regarding Saturday’s incident to help them continue their investigation.
