Recently obtained court records provide new insights into the investigation that led authorities to the remains of Michelle Arnold, a 23-year-old Maple Heights woman reported missing in October 2023. Her body was discovered in June 2024 in a vacant lot on Strathmore Avenue in East Cleveland.
Despite the breakthrough, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been officially named in what investigators have classified as a homicide.
Family’s Fight for Justice
Michelle’s sister, Ebony Arnold, has become a tireless advocate for justice, determined to ensure her sister is not forgotten. Her home is filled with photos and mementos that capture Michelle’s vibrant personality.
“She was a great young lady—quiet, giving, and spunky,” Ebony shared, flipping through a photo album. “Thinking of her being silly or cracking random jokes makes me smile.”
Since Michelle’s disappearance, Ebony’s life has been upended. She recalled the devastating moment when authorities found her sister’s remains, buried under debris and exposed to the elements.
“She didn’t deserve to be murdered like that,” Ebony said. “There’s no doubt people know what happened to my sister. They were there. They know.”
Clues from Court Documents
According to court documents, the investigation gained traction in January 2024 when an anonymous caller contacted Cleveland Heights Police. The tipster alleged that a man currently incarcerated for an unrelated crime had killed Michelle during a robbery gone wrong. The caller suggested her body might be located on Strathmore or Potomac Avenue.
Further details emerged when detectives interviewed the accused man. He claimed Michelle had been brought to his home in a blue sedan by two acquaintances for a firearm transaction. According to his statement, Michelle never entered his home and left in the vehicle after the sale. He later heard she had been shot and killed.
While these leads provided critical information, the case remains unresolved. The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Despite the lack of arrests, Ebony expressed confidence in the investigators handling her sister’s case.
“These guys are actually doing their job—they really care,” she said.
Honoring Michelle’s Memory
Ebony has vowed never to stop fighting for justice. “Even if God calls me home, I’ll still be fighting for her,” she said.
To honor Michelle’s life, Ebony is planning a memorial service for the spring. The event will include a horse-drawn carriage and the release of doves, reflecting the love and care her family feels for her.
