O’Malley Assigns Special Prosecutor Amid Conflict Concerns

Earlier today, in light of all of the allegations of conflicts of interest on social media, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley has requested that Special Prosecutor, Jane Hanlin, head up the upcoming Bobby George trial. Mr. O’Malley stated that his reason for this was to ensure that the citizens of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County do not lose confidence in the justice system.

Although O’Malley stated that he doesn’t know Bobby George, he was transparent and forthright when it came to revealing the campaign contributions received; $36,000 over a number of years from the George family, specifically Tony George.

At the end of the day, Michael O’Malley did the right thing for all involved. Passing the case to a Special Prosecutor removes any impressions that may linger on social media platforms about conflicts of interest. O’Malley stated the decision had been a week in the making, aiming to find someone qualified, conflict-free, and available to handle the case.
