8-Year-Old Boy Injured in Accidental Shooting: Gun Left Unsecured in Home

A tragic incident occurred Thursday evening when a child unintentionally shot another child. The incident took place around 8 p.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Officers were initially dispatched to a home on Leonard Street, where they learned that the victim was an 8-year-old boy. However, as they gathered more information, it was revealed that the shooting actually occurred at a different location—approximately one mile away at a house on Hardesty Boulevard.

The young victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, is expected to recover. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the boy conscious and breathing on his own. He was quickly transported to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Authorities have confirmed that the firearm involved in the incident was a legally owned handgun, belonging to the father of the child who fired the weapon. The gun had been left unsecured and was within easy reach of the children. As the investigation continues, police are working to piece together the events that led to this unfortunate accident. No further details have been released at this time.
