An 8-year-old girl took her family’s vehicle and drove to a Target store on Sunday morning, prompting a search by local authorities, according to Bedford police.
The incident began when officers were called to Greencroft Road after the child and a 2020 Nissan Rogue were reported missing. The family said they had last seen the girl around 7 a.m.
Ring Doorbell footage from neighbors showed the girl getting into the vehicle and driving away by herself early that morning, police said.
A report of a small child driving on Rockside Road matched the vehicle’s description, but officers were unable to locate the car at that time. Later, Flock cameras captured the vehicle heading down Pettibone Road in Bainbridge, prompting police to search the area.
Bainbridge officers eventually found the car parked at a Target store and soon located the girl inside the building.
The girl and the vehicle were safely retrieved by her family, according to police. During questioning, the child mentioned hitting a mailbox during her trip.
