Ohio residents have just under a week to ensure they are registered to vote in the upcoming 2024 general election. The deadline for voter registration is fast approaching on Monday, October 7, one day before early voting officially begins across the state.
Ohio requires voters to register 30 days before the election, a policy that sets it apart from the 20 states that allow same-day registration and voting on Election Day, which this year falls on November 5.
This election promises to be significant, with key races on the ballot, including the highly anticipated U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown and Republican challenger Bernie Moreno. Voters will also weigh in on a proposed state constitutional amendment that could reshape how Ohio draws its legislative and congressional districts. Additional races for the Ohio Supreme Court, U.S. Congress, and seats in both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly will also be decided.
Of course, the presidential election tops the ticket, drawing attention from across the country.
If you’re unsure whether you’re already registered, you can check your status by visiting the Ohio voter lookup website. To register online, residents need to provide their Ohio driver’s license or ID card number, along with personal details such as their name, date of birth, address, and the last four digits of their Social Security number. Voter registration can also be completed in person at local county boards of elections or by mailing a registration form, as long as it is postmarked 30 days before the election.
Libraries across Ohio often have voter registration cards available as well.
