Expect Road Closures and Traffic Delays in Downtown Cleveland This Weekend

Downtown Cleveland is gearing up for a busy weekend, and with it comes road closures, parking restrictions, and likely traffic delays. The city will host several major events, including the Guardians’ American League Championship Series opener on Thursday at Progressive Field, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, and the Browns’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

With large crowds expected, the City of Cleveland has issued a traffic advisory, encouraging visitors to consider using public transportation. Road closures and parking restrictions will be in place throughout the weekend.

Parking Restrictions

The following streets will experience parking restrictions:

  • Thursday, October 17: From 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM on East 9th Street (Euclid Ave to Carnegie Ave), Prospect Ave (East 9th St to Ontario St), and Huron Rd (Ontario St to Prospect Ave).
  • Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 19: From 4:00 PM on Friday to 1:00 AM Saturday.
  • Saturday, October 19 to Sunday, October 20: From 4:00 PM on Saturday to 1:00 AM Sunday.
  • Sunday, October 20: From 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on East 9th St (Lakeside Ave to Carnegie Ave), Lakeside Ave (East 9th St to West 9th St), St. Clair Ave (East 9th St to West 9th St), West 9th St (Front Ave to West Superior Ave), and West 3rd St (Lakeside Ave to St. Clair Ave), along with other streets near the football stadium.

The city advises drivers to check for posted signage regarding parking restrictions.

Exit Ramp and Road Closures

On Sunday, October 20, several Route 2 ramps and downtown streets will close:

  • West 3rd Street off-ramp (Westbound): Closing at approximately 10:00 AM.
  • West 3rd Street (Northbound/Southbound): Closing at 10:00 AM.
  • East 9th Street (Westbound): Closing at 10:00 AM, with limited access to The Pit and Cuyahoga County lots.
  • East 9th Street (Eastbound): Closing at approximately 10:20 AM.
  • West 28th Street: Closing at 10:40 AM.
  • West 6th Street: Closing at 11:00 AM.

Despite these closures, access to certain parking facilities, including the Willard and Jones Day garages, will be maintained.

Parking Options

  • Gateway Garage: $20 rate all weekend.
  • Willard Garage: Opens Sunday at 7:00 AM with a $40 rate; closed on Saturday.
  • Municipal Lot: Opens Sunday at 5:00 AM, with a $40 fee per space.

With a packed schedule of events and multiple road closures, those heading downtown are encouraged to use public transit options such as the RTA to avoid congestion. Shuttle buses will replace RTA Blue Line trains between Shaker Square and the Warrensville/Van Aken station until further notice.
