The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame hosted a star-studded induction ceremony on Saturday, featuring performances by some of the biggest names in music. Dua Lipa and Cher kicked off the evening with a duet of “Believe,” followed by performances from funk legends Kool & the Gang, rockers Foreigner, and a soulful set from Dionne Warwick, who delivered an unforgettable performance at the age of 83.
This year’s ceremony, which stretched over five hours, saw artists from a wide range of genres being honored. Among the inductees were Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Ozzy Osbourne, and the Dave Matthews Band. Posthumous recognitions were given to Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Norman Whitfield, and Big Mama Thornton.
Zendaya took the stage to honor Cher, noting the legendary singer’s unprecedented career, spanning seven decades of chart-topping hits. “Cher is an icon who has stood the test of time,” she said, before Cher delivered a powerful rendition of “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
Mary J. Blige, who was introduced by Dr. Dre, gave an emotional performance, highlighting her role in shaping the genre of hip-hop soul. Blige’s set included hits like “Family Affair” and “Be Happy,” while Dre praised her for her ability to connect with audiences through her music.
Julia Roberts, a longtime fan of the Dave Matthews Band, helped induct the group. She recalled the band’s unique blend of styles and praised their lasting impact on the music world. The band performed several hits, including “Ants Marching” and “Crash,” and kept the crowd energized into the late hours.
Kool & the Gang, introduced by Chuck D, delivered a medley of their greatest hits, bringing the crowd to their feet. Led by founding member Robert “Kool” Bell and singer James “JT” Taylor, the group’s performance was a celebration of their lasting influence on funk and pop music.
The night also included tributes to late artists, with Dionne Warwick sharing the stage with Jennifer Hudson for a moving performance of “I’ll Never Love This Way Again.” Teyana Taylor introduced Warwick, calling her a true original and a pioneer in the music industry.
Other notable performances included a tribute to Jimmy Buffett, with Dave Matthews and James Taylor performing some of his signature hits, and a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who was celebrated for his contributions to rock and metal. Sammy Hagar inducted Foreigner, and their set included guest performances from Demi Lovato, Slash, and Kelly Clarkson.
Peter Frampton was honored by Roger Daltrey, with Frampton showcasing his legendary guitar skills alongside Keith Urban. Frampton thanked his fans and reflected on his long and storied career.
The night ended on a high note with a tribute to Buffett, and the ceremony, held at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, will be broadcast on television early next year.
