In the aftermath of a massive fire that devastated the Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook apartment project under construction in Cleveland Heights, the city’s fire department has extended heartfelt thanks to the agencies, local businesses, and community members who supported their efforts.

“We would like to thank all of those who offered help and support during our fire operations on Cedar Road this week. We certainly could not have done it without their assistance,” the department shared in a Facebook post on Sunday.
The fire broke out Friday night at the Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook site, a long-awaited $66 million development that included plans for 206 luxury apartments and ground-floor retail space. Firefighters battled the flames into Saturday afternoon, with the building sustaining extensive damage. Originally slated for completion in early 2025 after years of planning, the future of the project is now uncertain.
The Cleveland Heights Fire Department received assistance from numerous nearby departments, including Shaker Heights, University Heights, South Euclid, and many others across the region. They also acknowledged local businesses for providing warm food and supplies to firefighters on the scene, encouraging the community to support those businesses and others impacted by the fire.
The department plans to release additional details about the fire in an upcoming press release as the investigation continues. For now, Cleveland Heights officials are focusing on recovery efforts and reflecting on the teamwork displayed by first responders and the community during the crisis.
