A high-speed pursuit involving the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office resulted in one death and one person in critical condition after a fiery crash late Friday night, according to Cuyahoga County Press Secretary Jennifer Ciaccia.
The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. on Friday when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on E. 9th Street in Cleveland. The driver fled, leading authorities on a chase eastbound on I-90. “The deputies pursued the vehicle,” Ciaccia stated. “The vehicle then struck another car while exiting the freeway onto Eddy Road.”
Ciaccia explained that the collision caused the uninvolved vehicle to be thrown off the traffic bridge, ejecting its 48-year-old driver. Both vehicles caught fire following the crash. Cleveland EMS arrived at the scene and confirmed the death of the 45-year-old driver of the pursued vehicle. The other driver, critically injured, was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The crash itself is still under investigation at this time.
