Teen Tragically Killed During Memorial Day Parade in Green

A 13-year-old boy died Monday after falling from a float and being run over during the Memorial Day parade in Green, Ohio, prompting the event to end early.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the teen was riding on a parade float—a trailer being pulled by a 2024 Ford F-150—when he fell and was struck by the trailer near the end of the parade route. Emergency responders transported the boy to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed the teen was a student in the North Canton City Schools district. In a statement, the district expressed deep sorrow at the loss, saying, “There is no greater tragedy than the death of a young person, and we offer our sincere condolences and support to the family.” The district also noted that its crisis management team is providing counseling and support services to students and staff.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy and the ongoing investigation, officials have not released the boy’s name. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
