Cleveland Man Charged in Deadly Euclid Beach Park Shooting

A 25-year-old Cleveland man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place earlier this month at Euclid Beach Park, according to the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Manning, was taken into custody on Wednesday, nearly two weeks after the July 3 shooting that killed 20-year-old Jarvis Perryman Jr. and injured a 17-year-old. Police say Manning was still wearing the same clothes from the night of the incident when he was apprehended.

The shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. near the park’s concession stand. According to Metroparks Police Chief Kelly Stillman, a verbal altercation escalated quickly into violence.

“They got into a verbal argument over something we’re still investigating,” Chief Stillman said. “Mr. Manning pulled out a weapon and began firing, striking Mr. Perryman in the chest and also injuring a 17-year-old juvenile.”

Perryman was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries. The teenage victim was treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

Manning now faces charges of murder and attempted murder. Police say they do not believe the shooting was random.

Chief Stillman emphasized that while the park is generally considered a safe public space, the incident happened well outside normal operating hours, and safety concerns tend to rise when groups gather late at night.

“You have individuals—often between 18 and 25—who are in the park after hours. When alcohol is involved, it becomes a recipe for disaster,” Stillman explained.

In response to the shooting, Metroparks officials have announced several steps to improve safety across the park system. Planned measures include additional security cameras, license plate readers, and increased overnight patrols.

Despite the recent violence, officials continue to affirm the safety of Cleveland’s Metroparks.

“Our parks are safe,” said Chief Stillman. “We have a committed, professional police department, and this arrest shows our dedication to keeping our public spaces secure.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities encourage anyone with additional information related to the case to contact Cleveland Metroparks Police.
