CLEVELAND — A woman was killed and multiple people were injured early Sunday after a vehicle fleeing from Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies collided with another car on the city’s East Side.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle around 1:16 a.m. near East 13th Street and St. Clair Avenue. The car was reportedly being driven without headlights and was traveling recklessly, with deputies suspecting the driver was under the influence.
When deputies tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped eastbound on St. Clair at a high rate of speed. Officials said supervisors authorized deputies to pursue.
Minutes later, the fleeing vehicle slammed into another car at St. Clair and Addison Road.
A 37-year-old woman, who was driving the second vehicle, was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. Her male passenger was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The 24-year-old man driving the suspect vehicle was hospitalized for injuries. Two passengers in his car — an adult woman and a 16-year-old girl — suffered serious injuries and were also taken to the hospital.
Deputies reported finding multiple open containers of alcohol inside the suspect’s car. The driver was arrested on charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, suspected OVI, and several traffic violations.
Authorities also confirmed that one deputy was injured in the incident and taken to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
