Murder Suspect Arrested in Connection with East Cleveland Shooting

EAST CLEVELAND — A 43-year-old man has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals in connection with a fatal shooting in East Cleveland, officials confirmed this week. The suspect, identified as Verdine Glover, faces charges of aggravated murder and felonious assault.

The incident in question took place on June 20, when officers were called to the 1300 block of E. 117th Street after reports of shots fired. On arrival, they found Edward Walker, 55, with a stomach wound that was considered non-life-threatening, and Lavelle Scales, also 55, who later died from gunshot injuries.

Authorities say Glover had been wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police in the case. On Friday, U.S. Marshals located and arrested him. Officials say he is now held under a $1 million bond following his indictment.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott praised the coordination between the Marshals and local homicide detectives. “Another case closed due to the outstanding work by the men and women of the Cleveland Division of Police homicide division,” Elliott said, noting that this arrest is one of several this year in exploding cases in violent crime.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances around the shooting—including motive, whether more suspects were involved, and additional evidence from the 117th Street scene.
